Black As
J. Scott Smith
Black as night when not moonlight nor star bright is there
Black as shadows when they blend and fade and they stare
Black as the depths of the ocean, far from the sun
Black as white satin entombed when our days are done
Black as clouds gathered to witness the midnight storm
Black as rain dropping, drip-dripping from clouds now torn
Black as the fur of that fabled feline, the cat
Black as sin and bearing bad luck, bad as all that
Black as can be, and I've shown certainly can be
Black as my soul, black as my heart, black as my days
Black as my nights, black as when you're not here with me
Black as my thoughts when none but your memory stays
