Pick It Back Up Again

J. Scott Smith

The morning sun it starts to blossom
A ball of fire on the horizon
Rise and shine it's a brand new mornin'
Time to go start the day

It won't be long before I'm wishin'
I could knock off and do some fishin'
You know it's big, that one I'm missin'
Because I work all day

I don't know if it's worth it anymore
The way I feel I could lay it down
And never come back again
I don't care, it ain't worth it anymore
But I know me and all I'll do is complain
And pick it back up again

By lunch time it's hotter than hades
I'll take a break and watch the ladies
Under a tree all nice and shady
They're all perfect today

Whistle at one, smile at another
They all know it ain't worth the bother
Coming from me, I tell you, brother
It's nothing new, they'll say

I don't know if it's worth it anymore
The way I feel I could lay it down
And never come back again
I don't care, it ain't worth it anymore
But I know me and all I'll do is complain
And pick it back up again

By four-thirty I'm tired and thirsty
Sweaty and I'm head to toe dirty
I'll shower first then go get flirty
Some girl I met today

Ten o'clock comes and I'm still talkin'
She's not bitin' so I start walkin'
Back to my house some call a cabin
And pull off this old day

I don't know if it's worth it anymore
The way I feel I could lay it down
And never come back again
I don't care, it ain't worth it anymore
But I know me and all I'll do is complain
And pick it back up again

Midnight and that ol' moon's a-risin'
A white light bulb on the horizon
Time to switch it off and be sleepin'
Mornin's another day

Time to pick it back up again
