You say it, and I want to believe it,
But years of experience have taught me
The truth of the lie
When you say it, perhaps you believe it
Maybe in your mind's eye in fact you see
That you'll at least try
But as you speak, I know to distrust it
As I've learned you'll forget and dismiss me
And neglect to try
So, say it, and I'll try to believe it
But know that behind the promise I see
In truth it's a lie
